Socket Stone doesn't work

I added a socket stone to my plate armor, but when I try to use a socket rune on it it said that it only works on the new socketed items from Gunther and my item had no sockets.

also, will it give just 5% on an armor since we are back to the old sockets system instead of the 25% of earlier?

I just tried it last night.

Just tried it myself, it says "You add a sockets to: X", then when you try to add a socket gem, it tells you socket gems can only be used on the newer sockted items in gruthers shop. And also tells you that your item doesn't have sockets. Just lost the socket stone I just bought from someone...
