New Secret Area

A new secret area is available. It has increased drop rate for forge stones for all mobs.
Search Aildrek's lair.

Would it be possible to have the tomb open for more of the servers uptime than is now the case then?

This might count as asking for spoilers, but is there some kind of item or action that is required to enter the secret area? I've just finished exploring the whole of Aildrek's Tomb and couldn't find any new doors or portals.

A cleric with the Trickery domain (which your party will need) will be able to find the entrance using currently available gear, other builds will need to invest in search.
